Description
Limestone has long been quarried in Delaware County due to quality and proximity to the surface. Limestone has many important uses. Limestone has long been used for buildings, road construction, and farming. From the mill worker cottages in Stratford to St. Peters Episcopal Church and the Arts Castle, a variety of building have been built from Delaware County limestone. Steve Schmitt will present a history of limestone quarrying in Delaware County, including geology, uses, quarry technology and many historic quarries. This is a free event but we will appreciate donations as they help cover operating costs of the Society, including utilities, insurance, security, etc. Thanks you for your generosity.
