Plant Bed Maintenance Crew Leader

Job Summary
The Plant Bed Maintenance Crew Leader is responsible for coordinating and performing detailed landscape maintenance services while leading a field crew to meet quality, safety, and client service standards. This role combines hands-on horticultural expertise with leadership, site evaluation, and client-facing responsibilities. The position oversees regular site inspections, identifies enhancement opportunities, supports new and existing client growth, and ensures projects are completed according to company and customer expectations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise landscape maintenance crew, ensuring productivity, safety, and quality standards are met.
- Conduct regular site inspections to maintain plant health, appearance, and contract compliance.
- Perform and oversee detailed plant bed maintenance including mulching, edging, pruning, weeding, mowing, and trimming.
- Identify plant, turf, irrigation, lighting, and drainage issues and provide recommendations for corrective action and enhancements.
- Complete work orders, service documentation, and inspection reports accurately and on time.
- Maintain vehicles, equipment, and tools, ensuring safe operation and proper service logging.
- Support client communication, enhancement sales opportunities, and seasonal services including snow and ice management.
- Provide snow and ice removal services on a 24/7 on-call basis during winter weather events.
- Associate degree in horticulture, plant sciences, landscape management, or related field OR minimum three (3) years of relevant field experience.
- Valid driver’s license with ability to pass insurance eligibility background check
- Ability to operate a truck and trailer combination
- Possession of Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) Commercial applicator’s License categories 3A, 6A, 6C and 8 or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
- Strong knowledge of plant identification, pruning standards, soil health, and turf care.
- Ability to diagnose pest and disease issues and recommend treatment plans.
- Working knowledge of irrigation systems and basic troubleshooting.
- Snow Removal Experience (Truck w/ Plow, Skid steer or Sidewalk Crew)
- Ability to lift, carry and move up to 50 pounds frequently and heavier items occasionally
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, squatting and reaching throughout the workday
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs and navigate uneven or sloped terrain safely
- Auditory ability to hear instructions, warnings and equipment alarms
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, cold and precipitation
- Primary worksites are located outside and subject to exposure to the weather elements.
- Occasional warehouse work related to tools and equipment storage and upkeep
